The following is a Master Chart of my Dad's O'Donnell ancestor's going back to the famous times of  Red Hugh O'Donnell, "The Fighting Prince of Donegal", who died in exile in Spain in 1602 after defeat at Kinsale at the hands of the British.  The chart below shows the line of Irish O'Donnell descendants from Red Hugh down through to my father, Maurice John O'Donnell, who died in Pittsburgh in 1964 after naming me Hugh Owen O'Donnell.  Although we may not be directly related to the "royal" line of Red Hugh from Donegal, a line which ended in the Co Mayo town of Newport, with the death of my great grandfather's landlord, Sir Richard O'Donel and his son Sir George of Newport House, around 1900, we are closely related to these Newport O'Donel's and the turbulent times of the Irish Rebellion of 1798 that centered around Co. Mayo Ireland and the "infamous" Sir Neal O'Donel of Newport.

In 1993, my son Peter asked me were my great grandfather immigrated from in Ireland and why he immigrated.  The answer has not come easy because my ggrandparents did not reveal in Co. Mayo where they came from on death certificates.  The following web page answers the:

Who, Where & Why ODonnell's immigrated to USA in 1861

The following is a picture of the homestead in Ireland my Dad's ancestors immigrated from in 1861.  The picture shows structures made of cut stone indicating a degree of wealth for the time period (1820-1850) and location of the homestead in remote Achill Parish, West Co. Mayo.
